Halachic times for Valencia, Spain · September 25 – October 4, 2026
Candle lighting and the end of the holiday: Chabad.org times for Valencia (candles 18 minutes before sunset), the same as in the community program. The other times are calculated for Valencia (39.47° N, 0.38° W). Outside of Israel, two days of Yom Tov are observed at the beginning and at the end of the festival.
Sukkot (סֻכּוֹת) is the Festival of Booths, a seven-day celebration of overflowing joy.
Throughout the week we dwell in the sukkah — we eat in it and, if possible, sleep in it — a temporary hut roofed with natural branches (schach) through which the stars can be seen. The sukkah recalls the clouds of glory that protected Israel in the desert and teaches us to trust in divine protection.
Together they represent the unity of the Jewish people: every one of them is essential.
The seventh day, Hoshana Rabbah, is the final sealing of the divine judgment: we circle seven times with the Four Species and strike five willow branches on the ground.
The Rebbe called Sukkot “the festival of joy” and led mass celebrations with music and dancing.
“The sukkah teaches us that true protection does not come from solid walls but from the Divine presence. The fragility of the sukkah is its greatness.”
— The Lubavitcher Rebbe
